Emily Jane Brontë

Emily Jane Brontë was born July 30, 1818 in Thornton, Yorkshire, England. Her
death occurred in Haworth, Yorkshire, England on December 19, 1848. She had
five siblings total, four sisters, and one brother. Her mother passed when Emily
was three, so she grew up with only her siblings, father, and Aunt Elizabeth.
Later on in life, Emily tried teaching for a short period of time, but due to the
stress, she retired. She then became a stay at home daughter. She cooked, did
laundry, and took care of cleaning the house.
At her brothers funeral, she caught a severe cold, which turned into tuberculosis
and then was the cause of her death.

Works

Emily's main influence was herself. She enjoyed the outdoors, and solitude.
She wrote only one novel, Wuthering Heights. However, She wrote many poems,
which have actually been published in a book along with her siblings poems.
They published under pseudonyms, to keep their privacy.

Quotes

"I have dreamed in my life, dreams that have stayed with me ever after, and
changed my ideas; they have gone through and through with me, like wine
through water, and altered the color of my mind." (Emily Brontë) I love this quote,
Emily shows that she has a dream, and she has kept with it. She's really followed
through.
"I am now quite cured of seeking pleasure in society, be it country or town. A
sensible man ought to find sufficient company in himself. (Emily Brontë) This
quote displays how Emily was more than content to stay in solitude, she spent
her days alone.
